When you’re out of your depth

“When I asked a friend to give me a small loan until the end of the month, he did much better then that, he recommended me a company that would prevent me from borrowing to pay ever again”

Borrowing to pay was becoming a part of my life for the best part of 18 months. It started early 2004 by the summer of 2005 it was becoming very embarrassing.

A friend of mine had said enough is enough but I still tried and tried… John from whitewater management saw me earlier in the year but I still thought I could borrow my way out of financial trouble.

By a strange quirk of fate another friend that rejected my advances for a loan until payday also put me on to whitewater management and I knew this time that a company out there that had been recommended to me by two different friends was going to put me on a proper financial footing.

John the second time around was just as sympathetic and not once did he mention the fact that this problem could have been resolved the first time around if I wasn’t so stubborn into thinking that the problem ‘would just disappear’

My debt repayments have more then halved and all 4 of my creditors are happy with the reduced payments.

I’ve gone from supposedly paying £1,400 a month plus arrears accruing, to a monthly payment of £625.00.

“Apart from marrying my wonderful and forgiving wife, signing up to a whitewater debt management plan was the best thing that I ever did”

I received a letter from the county court with regard to an unpaid credit card and within a couple of days I also received a letter from whitewater debt management. The letter asked me to consider a Free Financial Healthcheck which quite honestly was a godsend considering the ‘nasty letter’ I had just received from my local county court.

It took me a few days to pluck up the courage and phone but really I needn’t be nervous as Lisa took good care of me and arranged for John to come and see me at my house which suited me fine.

What I liked about John was his demeanour and the fact he took the problem away with him there and then!

Wants to remain anonymous –Grays/Essex
I had an ongoing relationship with my mortgage broker whereby I would come and see him every 2 years, take a big chunk of equity from my property by way of a remortgage and then go away for the next 2 years and live a life style which I obviously couldn’t afford!

Of course it had to come to an end and in all honestly it was quite painful to be told by my broker that “enough was enough” and that £60,000 that I now owed the banks and credit cards wasn’t going to be ‘wiped off’ with another remortgage…There just was nothing left…But a £60,000 debt that I could no way pay.

What was I going to do?

Yet again my mortgage broker came to the rescue…even though I wasn’t to know it at the time! I was dead against debt management…it was going to ruin my credit file…my wife…what am I to tell her?

“You’ve trusted me for years in remortgaging you out of debt; now trust me to actually help you to do something more tangible so that you never get yourself in to this situation again”

So how can I not give my broker the benefit of the doubt?

It turned out to be the best financial decision I have ever made in my life! I met John at the mortgage broker’s office whereby he sat with me for the best part of an hour and went through a plan of action and what the resulting monthly payment was going to be.

I had gained enough confidence to there and then telephone my wife and not only tell her about the remortgage decline but to also tell her that a better financial solution was on its way!
